John has almost 50 years in management and over 25 years of nonprofit leadership experience. Retired as the Director of Development for The Salvation Army Augusta Area Command and Kroc Center, and currently serves (PT) as Director of Development for Move the Mountain Ministries.
Previously, John served as Development Director for the Georgia and Alabama Land Trusts, was Vice President of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, and the National Pain Foundation (NPF), where he was named interim CEO of the NFP during the merger with the American Pain Foundation.
In his previous career with The Salvation Army, he was the Executive Director of Development and Public Relations for the Intermountain Division, serving Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Montana, and with the Cascade Division overseeing fundraising in Oregon and Idaho where he completed a $64 million Salem Kroc Center capital campaign in one year. He also served as Foundation Director for St. Joseph's Health System and was the Executive Director of one of the largest children's emergency shelters in South Carolina.
Successfully implemented financial development vehicles, including major gifts, donor development, corporate gifts, grants, special events, and mail appeal. Also responsible for: marketing, media, public information, volunteers, Emergency Disaster Services, and social media.
John has managed marketing, development, and Planned Giving Programs for local, regional, national, and international markets. A successful grant writer with a 70% award rate.
John has served on the Grants Advisory Committee for the Children's Trust Fund, on the Board of Directors for Consumer Credit Counseling Service, the Latin American Services Organization (LASO), was Vice President of the Savannah chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and was past President LASO and of the Tybee Arts Association.
John speaks and consults to nonprofits, ministries, and churches in fundraising, program development, marketing, public relations, grants, capital campaigns, management, crisis intervention, Board development, church outreach, ministries, and sermons.
